Lykke is a mother, wife, creator, and facilitator of a woman’s circle in her small, beautiful village in Denmark. Her tale is an inner journey towards re-shaping a nurturing and trusting relationship to her intuition and the innate wisdom of her body – something that had been abandoned for most of her life, and wove into her ability to make authentic, intuitive choices in pregnancy and birth. Through the chrysalis of maiden to mother, Lykke’s unwanted cesarean became a catalyst for developing a deep, conscious relationship with her cyclical nature and a doorway to the foundational layers of her womanhood and wombspace.
This story will be a bit different then episodes past – while, simultaneously, being a story that is all too common: the primal process that is physiological birth not unfolding the way we had hoped nor planned, and ending in technocratic intervention. I myself have walked this road.
I chose to share Lykke’s story not to reframe it nor to impose the also all too common, and quite frankly, very ignorant narrative of “well at least you and baby are safe and healthy.” Quite, the contrary. I chose this story as a connecting point for any mother or birthgiver that might be on a healing journey from their children’s entrance into this world and possible birth trauma – however that may look. And to offer the idea that from these experiences – our tribulations and our traumas – coexists the gift of wisdom and the opportunity for growth.
