We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. With 12 children and 18 years of midwifery between us, we’ve learned a thing or two along the way, and Indie Birth is our space to share it all with you.

“I want to be a doula/midwife but I haven’t had kids yet. Does it matter?”

I get asked this question ALL the time by aspiring doulas and midwives. I have meant to make this episode for a long time and I’m so glad I did. I share a little bit about how it has been for me to be in birth work at all these different stages in my own life – before having babies, after my two miscarriages, after having my first full term baby in 2014, and after having my second in 2019. My resounding across the board advice though if you DON’T want to listen (ha!) is that if your heart and soul are calling you to birth work, and you haven’t had your own children yet, now is a GREAT time to start :).
