We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. With 12 children and 20 years of midwifery between us, we’ve learned a thing or two along the way, and Indie Birth is our space to share it all with you.

A few words about this new, amazing new design by our good and very talented friend, Nori!
We are offering this design on a shirt just in time for summer.

What is a birth witch?

We’re constantly encouraging people to discover what terms like “doula” mean to them. Yes, we can acknowledge the definitions and versions out there of this (and other words!) but often once we are IN the work of birth….we realize that we are serving in just the way we need to.

Regardless of title, labels and ways to describe what we do; we are indeed in service to BIRTH.

This doesn’t mean we don’t still resonate (and regularly use) words that also fit what we “do. Independent midwife, autonomous midwife. We believe in midwifery as an ancient art and science.

A “birth witch” can be all or any of these other words and may suit your perspective on being a part of birth work.

“Witch” is a word we’ve been trained to associate with negative or evil vibes, but of course we believe it’s quite the opposite. Witches engage in the sacred realm; they walk between worlds and see ways of healing and being that are not apparent to the average folk. Witches honor the mystery and have the ability to traverse the worlds of birth and death. We are in service to this mystery.

Obviously, this design was made specifically for our Indie Birth Community. You will notice the moon cycle, the relationship with plants, our logo, and a woman shrouded in mystery. In service.

Thank you Nori! You can get one here.
