The experience of giving birth is more than bringing another human being into this world, it’s also a Birthing for the Mother. We Birth ourselves, stretching our ideas of who we are, stretching ourselves to new limits and Becoming part of the Universal dance of Life and Death. We discover parts of ourselves we’ve long hidden, our fears come to the surface and our Inner Strength shows us that we can encompass and endure more than we believed.
We learn to either trust our bodies or fear them. During labour many of us experience a Oneness with all the ancestors and Mothers of the world who have birthed before us. In this “Birthing Ourselves” Mandala the Great Mother is there, holding us, keeping us safe and watching as we Blossom and Grow.
The profound change we undergo when we carry and nurture a being inside of us, birth that being from our bodies, feed the small human with our milk and keep this new human safe and warm with our love is a Change that cannot be explained in words. All we be can be sure of is that we will be profoundly and forever changed by the experience.
Note: This Mandala comes from the book “The Mandala Workbook: A creative guide for self-exploration, balance, and well-being.” by Susanne F. Fincher
