We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. With 12 children and 20 years of midwifery between us, we’ve learned a thing or two along the way, and Indie Birth is our space to share it all with you.

In this episode, I talk about my beliefs around food and kids and how ultimately I have settled on trying to control less and allow more freedom. I also share how food often looks in our house; where it comes from, who makes it and how we make it all work for us.

    Hi Maryn,
Thank you for this podcast! I really enjoyed it. I am a mother of 4 and can really relate to a lot of what you are experiencing.

Totally different topic, but I am a Midwifery Student and would love to hear your thoughts on electronic charting versus paper charting, and how to keep charting from reduced the quality of care that you give.

  2. Amanda says:

A very interesting look into your life on a controversial subject! Your relaxed attitude is inspiring, thanks for all the insight into this style of mothering.

    On the lighter diet subject:
Minerals are a terrible problem on low fat diets because dietary fat is required to digest minerals from food.

Iron gets thrown around a lot for vegans but the top concern for me with people on this diet (or even vegetarian) wouldn’t be the mineral iron, but the mineral zinc.

Here’s a very informative article on this problem:
