We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. With 12 children and 20 years of midwifery between us, we’ve learned a thing or two along the way, and Indie Birth is our space to share it all with you.

Katrina is a Self employed, Hardworking off grid homestead mother of two. Deep in the forest in an earthship she built with her partner, she had an unassisted birth with her second son. On this journey she learned lots about patience, acceptance, and trusting your intuition.

JADEN’S NOTE: Toward the end of the episode, Katrina and I begin to discuss the aspect of isolation that can come with being a mother/parent in our fast-paced, capitalist, do-it-all-yourself Western culture – aka “the age of loneliness.” As we are in the midst of a global pandemic, where many are practicing social distancing, this disconnect from community may be magnified and intensified among certain people and circles. In response to this need to stay connected with other like-minded folks, I’ve included a few resources in the show notes for various virtual mothers/sister/women’s circles. Hopefully, you’ll find something that resonates with you or feel free to leave a comment below to links to circles you are involved in and love.

  1. Hunter says:

Hey, I am a stay at home mama. Looking to establish community which had been extremely hard , my 5 year goal plan is to live off grid, so we are working towards our goals within that time frame.
I am about to do home birth here in one month, after first birth in the hospital. Super excited and excited to hear this story.

Is there a way to connect to Katrina? I am also desiring community and support .
