We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. With 12 children and 20 years of midwifery between us, we’ve learned a thing or two along the way, and Indie Birth is our space to share it all with you.

This podcast is all about incorporating more “inside work” into life during pregnancy and postpartum!

I definitely feel like talking about “mindfulness” is not optional, but I also know it is not the most popular topic because it requires a bit of dedication and commitment!

Getting started with a mindfulness practice is absolutely essential if we want to maintain our connection to ourselves and have the resources to make the choices that are right for us. Not to mention, mediation has been shown to greatly reduce anxiety and depression in postpartum mamas.

As midwives, it is our duty to set the stage with women for making this a part of their own prenatal care. I wonder why we aren’t talking more about the concept and practice of mindfulness and why there are not a lot of spaces for women to explore this practice!

Hear my own story about the never-ending self-exploration meditation journey I am on! I’d love to get more of the community on board with this practice and encourage you to contact me if you’d like to join a free “Indie Birth Mindfulness” community group!

There, we can support each other and explore this topic more fully. I’d also love to hear about your own mindfulness practices in pregnancy and how they have helped you maintain your focus or calm.
