This is a video of the final moments before Celosia’s birth and the first few minutes after. I had been in McRobert’s position (on my back with my knees pulled up) prior to this, which got her head under the pubic bone quickly. I was concerned about her heart tones and hadn’t had a pushing urge when I started pushing since her head was so high, so I needed to utilize all our available tools to help bring her down fast in a not ideal situation. The video starts with me getting off the floor to push while doing the towel pull/squat since that sounded best to me in the moment. Her head is born slowly between contractions, first just to her eyes, then her whole head, with the rest of her body following on the next contraction. You can hear me ask Maryn if I can push without a contraction because I was so anxious to get her out, and you can hear her quickly say “no”, ha! Pushing without a contraction can cause issues since it doesn’t allow the baby the chance to rotate how they need to in the same way that pushing during a contraction does.
