We are mamas and birth workers who decided to do birth differently– and bring others along with us. We are kind, fun to work with, and great at (lovingly) calling people on their bullshit. In this episode of Taking Back Birth, I take a close look at how to “break the tradition” of prenatal care and get the care you actually want and need.

Here are just a few of the things I discuss…

  • Why not choosing “medical care” during pregnancy is a valid option for many women.
  • How “prenatal care” as we know it is based on custom and ritual… not evidence!
  • What the W.H.O. recommends for low-risk, healthy women.
  • Other pregnancy care models that break tradition.

Thank you Maryn for opening these discussions. I love breaking tradition too… if it’s all messed up and broken, shake it up and put new pieces together!

  2. indiebirth says:

SarahSupernovaKaliShanti -Yep, that’s our job…get rid of the old, or reconstruct it, and make the new!  Which, really, is a lot like the old old…..:)

  3. Elisabeth says:

Love the info. It is something to think about.

  4. Rasa says:

Wondering if I could get the info on those interesting resources you mentioned in the end of this pod cast. I love your website and all your work 🙂 Thank you!

Maryn, these are pure gold. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for these podcasts. They are far beyond resourceful and beneficial. Looking forward to my UA homebirth. Thank you ❤️

  7. Thank you soooooo much for this insightful and absolutely necessary podcast. I love it when you say that “just like labor&birth isn’t a disease, so is not pregnancy” -so why are most women still looking for answers and reassurance (too much) from the medical providers??? And a big YEASSS for pregnancy/family-centered prenatal care groups. Makes so much sense! Just absolutely love this podcast! Please share the resources with me on my email when you get a chance? Love and gratitude to you always.

  8. Shanice says:

With each podcast, I feel the negative cycles breaking in my generations! This is so beautiful and eye opening. I feel so wise and intuitive and safe by the end of each podcast. Thank you so much I am now so excited for my next pregnancy and home birth
