Authenticity is a form of service”- Danielle LaPorte
I was about to send this amazing quote out as our daily Indie Birth Inspiration text message. But, I’ve arisen today earlier than my kids (!) and felt like I wanted to expand on this statement since people have actually gone back to reading our blog! (Way before social media, blogs used to be a thing! We are excited that so many of you support our move away from social media, back to a “slower” and more digestible way of communicating.)
I believe the primary mission of our human form on earth is indeed SERVICE. I know for me, this is true and “service” means something particular. It means that I am following my own path and what’s true for me in order to serve others through birth and live in a mission to “making things better”.
There are so many ways to be of service to someone, or to a cause. But there is only one way to be authentic.
What does being authentic mean to you?
Authenticity is the key to it all. Being authentic means listening to what you have within, making choices from that place and not letting anyone sway you or make you feel bad (or good!). When you are authentic, recognize you are exactly on the path and that path is perfectly where you should be. There are no apologies in authenticity. There may be boundaries, and lots of love. But being authentic means we are being truly “us” and it is from that place that service isn’t really a goal or an end-game but just a RESULT of offering your light to the world.
Specifically, authenticity in birthwork means that we clear ourselves of all the “noise” that might distract us from just being us in this work. Who knows what that is for each of us. We work through our own fears (of death, persecution, etc.), feelings of inadequacy, feelings of not being “ready” or enough. Our brains rationalize it all some days and not the next but authenticity is the honest place within. How can we shed the surface layers that bring us to that vulnerable and raw place? Accessing (or becoming!) or authentic selves leads to the service that is needed on this planet.
From deep within, I serve. Birth, women, babies.
Blessed be.
Just beautiful! So simple yet deeply profound. Just what I needed this morning ~ Thank you Maryn!
Man, I really feel like the Higher Power has been pressing on me the theme of peace and authenticity in the face of adversity. Thanks for being another vessel for that message.
Thank you Maryn for writing about authenticity. Happy New Year! Today as I write my goals for the new year I’m thinking about what supports my authentic self as I continue to support and encourage birthing and feeding folks in my area. I ended 2019 with a quick weekend trip to Sedona (met up with my 81 yr old mother at a timeshare she was staying at.) Such a beautiful part of the world you you live in! Make 2020 amazing! Keep the focus on serving! Much love and peace to you all!
