My podcast this week is a birth story, told by my apprentice and friend, Annika!
Annika birthed her first baby, Ruby, several months ago, and we finally got around to connecting together over this tale. I loved hearing Annika’s version from memory (always different than reading a story!) and loved the lessons and new experiences she had to share as a result of her daughter’s birth.
Sharing home birth stories (especially of a first baby!) is so needed and I’m very grateful to Annika for sharing her heart and recording this with me. The fact that she and Ruby are both very special to me made this even more fun. Take a listen!

Thanks for sharing your story! It’s so so important to share both stories from women of size and choosing other birth options than a traditional hospital birth. I’m due with my 3rd baby in October and after dealing with a lot of weight shaming from my OB I’m now pursuing a home birth. I’ve had so many people try to scare me out of this but I feel this is what I need for my own peace of mind, my confidence as a mom and birthing woman, a plus size woman, and partially to prove all the naysayers wrong.
