Yolanda, I can relate to your story. I first became pregnant 16 years ago, got a midwife, thankfully, I enjoyed her, for the most part. Before my next child this same midwife disappeared, in a way, and all I heard from the other midwives were negative. So I imagine she was resistant of becoming regulated and so became viewed as irresponsible. Wish I could connect with her again. Anyway, pregnant with second child in 2003 (I also love in BC btw), was volunteering with a midwife and remember conversations with her about the upcoming regulations in Midwifery. She was very dis heartened about the whole thing and knew how this would change the quality of care for women. I had an UC with my second, third and last. My third was 10 years apart from my second and so was open to meeting a kindred midwife. It was an awful experience..how 10 years of regulations changed things, I didn’t feel any warm or cosy feelings, and when I expressed that I was exploring my options and considering UC , but was hoping for a connection with another woman to be with me. I soon realized how uncomfortable these midwives were making me feel and cut off the relationship immediately. It was not long after when I received a formal letter in the mail from the BC Midwifery blah blah stating the many reasons and things that could happen to my child during an unassisted birth. I wrote them back a very frank letter. Anyways.. retarded. I devote most of my time studying birth, gathering, supporting and empowering women in pregnancy, birth and beyond. I have had the pleasure of meeting Gloria Lemay and have learned a tremendous amount from her over these years. She is awesome and does tell it like it is. Love you all♥️
